I went walking in Snowdonia with 2 friends, I was wearing these boots. After an hour or so of walking in just rain, with no submergence in water, I felt the first signs of moisture in my socks. This would get worse until I was walking with what felt like two bags of water on my feet. This may prove that they are in fact waterproof - as long as the water is inside the boot! This wasn't the worst issue though, you half expect wet feet when walking in the wet. The main concern was that the soles were so slippery. Following in the footsteps of two other people on the exact same terrain (one in army boots, one in quality walking boots), I was constantly the one whose feet shot out from underneath him! This was annoying at best, and downright dangerous at worst. Worst still was the fact that the grip was not predictable - one dodgy looking rock would give you rock solid grip, the next tame looking one would be like stepping onto black ice! I feel lucky not to have fallen badly and ended up needing emergency rescue, and won't be taking these boots to places where performance is important again. If you want a pair of comfy boots to walk around the city, and don't mind your feet getting wet if it rains, go ahead!
Walked in them every day for 9 days up the Himalayas. Extremely comfortable. Didn't get to test them in the wet as it was very dry there. Definitely value for money imo.
I've had these boots for 10 months now but they have never been waterproof. In the beginning i couldn't tell if the moisture in my socks was sweat or the boots were leaking. More recently it's became clear it's the water getting in. They have been very well looked after, they look just like new but now walking in even short wet grass gets my feet soaked. If you want waterproof boots do yourself a favour and avoid these.
As per the titles these boots are definitely not waterproof. Spend more or go elsewhere.
I have only had these boots six months but they already let in water. They claim to be waterproof but a half hour walk through wet grass leaves me with wet feet. I use them twice a day, every day, to walk my dog. Mostly on tarmac or grass, not a very demanding terrain. Very dissapointed.
Bought a pair of these a week ago. Very comfortable, stylish and light boot. Great for walking, but first time I wore them in wet grass, the right boot let in water just above the inside of the sole. I assumed it must have been a defective boot, so took them back to Decathlon yesterday and no problem getting them exchanged. Just come back from wearing them for the first time (2 mile dog walk) again, in wet grass and gain came back with wet socks. (Both feet this time) Looks like another 50 mile round trip to Decathlon Nottingham!! Won't be getting another pair. Either a defective batch, or they shouldn't be advertised as waterproof.
I’ve had these boots for 14 months now and I only/use them for cycling to work. I purchased them for their light weight and waterproof properties. Although the boots still look in good condition they have started to let in moisture and are no longer water proof. I will not recommend these.
Coming apart after 3 months and can't be returned as I use them for work! Disappointing.
Boots are very good value and do the job.
As stated, it's a very comfortable boot, handles skippy surfaces but walking through tall grass for long periods of time and your waterproof boot isn't so waterproof. Maybe they need to improve the seal to prevent this but for me, if you want a boot that's realistically splash proof and not waterproof then this will do
after walking in dew wet grass, the boots started to leak in at the toe area, i couldnt recommend these boots enough if you are walking in the dry, super comfortable, and grippy, and stylish, but are not waterproof
Hi there, I just went to Scotland for Easter break and do some hiking... Therefore I ordered your Mountain walking shoes MH500 for this occasion. However after the first hiking day, the right shoe completely cracked on a side (I have picture as a prove) I didn't expect that the shoes crack after only one day using... Therefore as a loyal customer, I expect a full refund or a new pair of shoes? Looking forward to hearing from you
Bought for my son he said he loves them and they are so comfortable
Good value for money really comfortable and waterproof.
I bought these men’s boots as the women’s were a little to snugg and my toes would touch the end if I was going down hill. They are very comfortable good cushioning and wider than women’s.
The grip of our soles is certified. To be awarded this certification, the shoes must pass laboratory tests to assess the grip rate on different surfaces (Smooth, Rugged, Dry, Wet). To validate these tests, we assess the quality of our soles in the field, the mountains, by a panel of representative testers over 500 km
In a laboratory, the shoe is immersed in water to mid height on a mechanical arm that simulates a number of steps. With this test we can determine a time and a number of km that the shoe can walk while staying dry.- 2000 bends, about 30 minutes of hiking- 10,000 bends, about 3 hours- 30,000 bends, approximately 8 hours- 50,000 bends, approximately 12 hoursThen we confirm that the shoe keeps its promises in use on the ground and in the rain.
To keep your feet dry, it is advisable to use waterproof gaiters or mini-gaiters that will protect the top of the shoe from incoming water, but also small stones, sand, etc.We advise you to re-waterproof your shoes twice a year using a waterproofing product (look for "waterproofing" on our Decathlon website) which will help to restore the original water repellent properties and combat external staining.
This shoe is fitted with the EVOFIT concept. With its stretch materials and specific design for the area of the foot where the joints are located, EVOFIT technology allows the shoe to perfectly fit the shape of your foot.
The most important thing is to try several sizes and models of shoes to find the best one for you!A size above your usual size can be taken to prevent toes from pressing against the tip when going downhill, provided that the foot is held properly in place to avoid friction.Advice: keep your toenails short and, before a long descent check that your lacing is tight enough to prevent your foot from sliding forwards inside the shoe.
Some Decathlon stores are equipped with a test course.1. Try both shoes on, standing up, wearing the socks you use for hiking.2. Tighten the laces, taking care to correctly restart the tightening.3. Check two points:- the heel does not take off before the shoe when you walk uphill.- the foot does not slide and the toes do not press onto the front when going downhill.4. Try on several sizes and models.Break them in gradually to adapt them to your foot.

A waterproof shoe will be less breathable than a non-waterproof shoe. You should therefore opt for socks like the MH500, MH520 and MH900 with a high or medium upper (adapted to the height of the shoe) to wick away perspiration and reduce friction.
The original insole in your shoes is designed to accommodate most feet. A change of insole can bring:1. Improved support: some soles are preformed or reinforced to better support the arch of the foot.2. More comfort: the insoles can also provide heat and/or cushioning.3. Longer life: restore the support and comfort of your shoes by replacing the insole each season.
