I bought this bad boy in 2014 for a trip to Australia. Ended up backpacking for 3 years (not daily use as I stayed in places for longer times to work). Everytime the pack comes out on another airport conveyer belt unharmed despite being packed to bursting, I am amazed at the quality. All zips and buckles are unharmed. And I squeeze stuff in there so tight the pack can't even fall over any more. Like I would hold on to the top and slam it against the floor to compress everything down. I have also done through-hiking, carrying it with full camping gear, food and water for 25+km a day and had no issues with straps/discomfort. Against recommendation, I've had it in the tumble dryer (precaution because of bedbugs in the hostel) and he survived just fine. Of course the pack is not perfect, more side pockets and straps would at times have been handy. But given the price, I am so impressed how well it is lasting me.
It's a nice bag, it looks good, and is fairly practical and incredibly cheap. It has front opening, which is great. There's only one problem, though - the straps aren't padded or strong enough to last, after 4 months backpacking in Europe, they are worn thin and are no longer very comfortable, essentially being reduced to the thin fabric tensioning straps that seem to be the main load-bearing structure. If I had to choose again, I'd spend a bit more money and get something a bit more fancy. I am in fact doing this as we speak.
I used this bag whilst wild camping in the Cairngorms for three days. The bag is durable and put up with the harsh conditions well. Poor design in the form of narrow back straps with little padding meant that the bag rubbed on shoulders causing immense discomfort. In addition the side pockets are small and provide limited use.
The item looks great and has proven to be reliable. No flaws or failures. A real eyecatcher.
This product is fine for what I paid for it. It’s no way as robust as a high end bergan but for 40 quid it does the job. A canoe liner will be required in case of a down pour as this is definitely not going to keep your kit dry. Another worry is the outer zip which seems flimsy and could burst open with a heavy load
Lots of pockets large and smaller ones. Interior can be separated into 2 compartments with draw strings. Differing height adjustments on shoulder straps for comfort. Nice choice of colours
Great value pack. Easily adjusted to sit properly against the back. Main compartment's front access makes getting at gear easy without packing/unpacking. Plenty of straps and webbing. Agree with previous comments about the side pockets not really extending out for additional space, and I would have liked to have seen a built in rain cover but that's a matter of personal opinion. All in all a fantastically priced multi day pack.
Bought it in order to take a band-saw bc f its cost and I thought "well.. wcs.. it will do its job" Must admit, I was surprised. Carried 18 kg in it without even notice. After the flight I was more surprised to see how the fabric stayed, not even a little mark of the use. Since then trekked few times, one in the Israel National Trail - more than 900 km, almost 2 months of trekking - a great job!
Just could do with a few more pockets / sections for smaller items on outside perhaps.
Quality product, thoughtfully designed
I bought this product and was pleased to have to use it more seriously on a two-day walk. When it was filling the backpack the black part on top tore completely and got a hole. I know it is not a top backpack, but I have a backpack of another brand that cost the same and I have used it many times and it is already 10 years old and never ripped. So I am very disappointed with this product. Joao Miranda.

Can fit a lot staff. Plenty of pockets. Can be opened in multiple ways. Missing straps to hang things from the bottom. Only drawback, its not waterproof
I love how light and comfortable it is to use, easy to adjust back attachment, and it was the only one I could find that you could completely open the front to access anything anywhere in the bag without having to dig through the bag. However I would have liked to see more pockets and a built in rain cover like on other brands. Also the material it's made from could be a bit thicker/robust.
I bought this for an 8 day trip to Jordan. I'm 5'3" and managed to set it up to fit me with an arctic sleeping bag strapped to the bottom for sleeping out in the desert. The slim design is great for public transport and the side and top access make getting to things and repacking very easy. The zips appear strong. All in all, it appears so far to be a well thought out bag at a very good price.
An excellent sized bag for a week away with an nifty front or top access system that makes living straight out of the bag easy. I also found the slimline design handy for getting on and off the tube and squeezing down the aisles on trains. The top and side pockets are very spacious and the pack is comfortable when on. The quality appears very good and the bag certainly looks and feels much more expensive than it is. I wouldn't recommend the bag for trekking as I suspect the big front zips would not be very waterproof, although you could probably purchase a separate rain cover. Some of the more pricey models come with these so I'd probably suggest paying the extra. The only issue really is that the back system is a bit of a pain to set up initially, but once done you don't have to mess around with it again, and for the price it would be churlish to complain.
Put your bedding at the bottom. Put heavier gear (tent, stove, food) closest to your back. Pack your clothes around these items. The groundsheet can be placed under the flap; the tent goes under the backpack if it doesn't fit inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. In the pockets, distribute the smaller items that you will need during the day (sun cream, map, sunglasses, etc.). Hydration packs should be placed in the compartment provided along the back.
Place the adjustment system at the height you think is correct, then adjust the backpack (see. "How to adjust your backpack"). With the belt on the pelvis, put the straps around the front part of your shoulders and the load adjuster straps (sometimes also height-adjustable) at an angle of around 45° (they should never be horizontal or vertical). If during fitting, the back seems too short or too long, readjust it and try again, until it feels absolutely right.
FIRST, LOOSEN all the straps (shoulder straps, belt, load adjuster straps). PUT THE BACKPACK ON. For backpacks with a capacity of 50 L or more, PLACE THE HIP BELT CORRECTLY (it should sit over the pelvis) and TIGHTEN IT. For smaller backpacks, position the belt around your waist. TIGHTEN THE SHOULDER STRAPS. Finally, ADJUST THE LOAD ADJUSTER STRAPS to suit you.
Decathlon has decided to inform you of the environmental impact of its hiking backpacks over their entire lifespan. This work follows an experiment that began in July 2011 with the French Ministry of Ecology. The scores, which range from A to E, are awarded based on a comparison between Quechua backpacks only. Details on this project and the calculation methods used are available at http://www.oxylane.com/20/demarche-environnementale
The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method: we fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. We then empty the balls into a graduated container to measure the equivalent volume in litres within a few percentage points. The net weight is that of our reference sample. There may be slight variations.
The warranty covers any defects/faults with the backpack, except those caused by normal wear and tear and improper use. This special 10-year warranty is only valid with the product and the sales receipt. If the product is under warranty, it will be repaired or exchanged for free. This commercial warranty does not affect any statutory rights that are applicable in the country of purchase.
